Lent Day 39

Jesus Anointed

Mary Magdeline Anoints Jesus

What does it mean to be anointed?

Mary Poured out her heart, her soul to Jesus.

Jesus was anointed not only for preparation for his DEATH but the Traumatic week he was about to endure!

“As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”

Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.””

Luke 7:38-39, 44-47 NIV

Mary, anointed Jesus’ feet with an expensive Spikenard, a Himalayan plant, Valerian. It was her life’s worth! Her burial oil. Often it was mixed with Frankincense and myrrh

Mary, who did not have a husband, saved that oil that she may have it for her own death; however, she gave it all She Pour her soul out to Jesus!

Mary washed Jesus’ feet then anointed and poured out the oil and massaged Jesus’ feet. Oil in the Bible represents the Holy Spirit.

Jesus was not only anointed in preparation for DEATH, but to endure the Traumatic week of knowing the suffering he would accept for the sins of ALL mankind!

Think about this Mary who had been forgiven so much now loves Jesus more than her own self, she gave everything! She was crying in Prayer, pouring out her soul with her tears, and drying Jesus’s feet with her very own hair.

What humility!
